Materials needed are oil paints, brushes, a place to mix your colors, a tool to mix them with and a surface to paint on. Plus you want a way to clean up. The ingredients are easy to find and you don’t need a lot of them. You can do a lot with a little. Good brushes and good paints are easier to use and go farther than the cheap ones.

The viscosity of the paint may be modified by the addition of a solvent such as turpentine or white spirit, and varnish may be added to increase the glossiness of the dried oil paint film. 

Brushes: A paintbrush is a brush used to apply paint or sometimes ink. A paintbrush is usually made by clamping the bristles to a handle with a ferrule. There are different types of brushes, we have Decorator’s brushes, Bristle Brushes, Artist Brushes and brush also come in different shapes and sizes, shapes can be round, flat, angle, mop, filbert, fan etc.. Sizes can be from small to biger size (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, etc..)

Palette: A rigid, flat surface on which a painter arranges and mixes paints. A palette is usually made of wood, plastic, ceramic, or other hard, inert, nonporous material, and can vary greatly in size and shape. The most commonly known type of painter’s palette is made of a thin wood board designed to be held in the artist’s hand and rest on the artist’s arm. Watercolor palettes are generally made of plastic or porcelain with rectangular or wheel format with built in wells and mixing areas for colors.

Palette knives: A palette knife is a blunt tool used for mhttps://i0.wp.com/www.italianartstore.com/store/media/IAS/PAL12.jpgixing or applying paint, with a flexible steel blade. It is primarily used for mixing paint colors, paste, etc., or for marbling, decorative endpapers, etc. The “palette” in the name is a reference to an artist’s palette which is used for mixing oil paint and acrylic paints.

Thinner: A paint thinner is a solvent used to thin oil-based paints or clean up after their use. Commercially, solvents labeled “Paint Thinner” are usually mineral spirits having a flash point at about 40 °C (104 °F), the same as some popular brands of charcoal starter.

Canvas: Canvas is an extremely durable plain-woven fabric used for making sails, tents, marquees, backpacks, and other items for which sturdiness is required. It is also popularly used by artists as a painting surface, typically stretched across a wooden frame. It is also used in such fashion objects as handbags, electronic device cases, and shoes.

Gesso: is a white paint mixture consisting of a binder mixed with chalk, gypsum, pigment, or any combination of these. It is used in artwork as a preparation for any number of substrates such as wood panels, canvas and sculpture as a base for paint and other materials that are applied over it.

Easel: An easel is an upright support used for displaying and/or fixing Wooden easel standing in empty room.something resting upon it, at an angle of about 20° to the vertical. In particular, easels are traditionally used by painters to support a painting while they work on it, normally standing up, and are also sometimes used to display finished paintings. Artists’ easels are still typically made of wood, in functional designs that have changed little for centuries, or even millennia, though new materials and designs are available. Easels are typically made from wood, aluminum or steel.

Studio / Lighting: A studio is an artist‘s or worker’s workroom, or the catchall term for an artist and their employees who work within that studio. This can be for the purpose of acting, architecture, painting, pottery (ceramics), sculpture, origami, woodworking, scrapbooking, photography, graphic design, filmmaking, animation, industrial design, radio or television production broadcasting or the making of music. The term is also used for the workroom of dancers, often specified to dance studio.

Varnish / Retouch Varnish: Vanish is a brand of stain removing products owned by Reckitt Benckiser, sold in Australia, India, South Africa, the United Kingdom and much of Europe. In North America, these products are sold under the Resolve brand name.
